Thursday 3/23
foot drag mount escape to half guard. when you have half guard make sure to stiff arm his free knee away from you so he can't turn and face you.
getting up to take down from half guard. - do the reverse shrimp to keep going forward and behind him - he must put his knee close to you and turn to face you or he'll give up the back. - block his knee and run him over.
IF he whizzers and posts his leg out, roll him over.
If he has the underhook, get your elbow in his armpit, pummel under and do the same moves.
If he puts the shoulder of justice on you, but you have the underhook, hook your free arm in his free leg and throw him up towards your head(not up towards the ceiling).
Escaping knee on stomach - grab the ankle of the knee that's on your stomach, palm up. - move yourself away so you're under side control. - underhook escape from side control.

Tuesday 3/28 Today we kept it real for the mean streets of Pittsburgh. foot drag mount escape to half guard. taking him down when he puches you. - Use crazy monkey defense and shoot when he throws his rear hand punch. - from his side, do tani otoshi, blocking his leg and falling down. www.judoinfo.com/images/animations/blue/taniotoshi.htm- if you're facing him with a bodylock and can't get to his side, use your bodylock on his low back to bend him backwards and trip him back. passing the guard with punches. - put left hand on his throat. - stand up, with your eyes over his eyes. punch down with right hand. - when he opens his legs, thrust hips forward, head up, crunching him into a ball, and pass over his legs. guard on the bottom with punches. - either close or far. closed guard on the bottom - get head control and overhook. - get your knee blocking his bicep so he can't punch you to the body. - put hand on his shoulder, slide it down to his wrist, push wrist away, throw leg over, triangle. open guard on the bottom - plank your body so he can't hit you in the head. - put your knees in his biceps. - as he punches, catch behind his arms and slide hands down to wrists. Now you have spider guard. -triangle. hydraulic mount escape - Defend the punches by bridging, not with your arms. - put your hands on his hips, bridge up and hold him up in the air with your arms as you get your knee in and go to a leglock.

By the way, in case you think crazy monkey is just some shit I made up, it's actually pretty popular. There's a clip of Kenny Florian using it to defend his face until he gets the takedown, but i couldn't find it. Here's a clip: www.openmat.dk/video/sbg/rodney_dvdteaser.wmv

Saturday 4/1 Thus ends our week of keeping it rizeal for the strizeets. No taints were harmed during the production of this week. Taking the opponent down as he punches you. Same from on Tuesday. Getting up when the opponent is standing in your open guard. kick him back and stand up in base. When opponent stands close to you with one knee in between your legs, do De la Riva guard. Make sure you push his leg back so he's standing staggered, not square. Then he can't hit you hard. Push his legs apart until his head comes down and kick him in the face or omoplata. If he pins your leg down, sit up and do the single leg thingy where you pass his arm to your arm that was grabbing his heel and stand up to a single leg takedown. If he tries to spin for a kneebar, move your knee down and to the side hooking behind his knee, and take his back. This one is shown at jenbjj.com/NewTechnique/Tech8.html

Tuesday 4/4 Jumping to guard with guillotine. Basically the point was you need to jump and wrap your legs around him, don't just let him run around to side control. escaping side control - by shrimping to guard - with underhook, popping him up and scooting yourself down - with arm under on the side near the legs, when he has the underhook on you. Use the leg swinging motion. - if he tries to sit to scarf hold, pull your elbow down, and shrimp to guard or armbar. lastly we did the flying leglock thing. You can see this guy do it at least twice in competition: video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7278283080544814131&q=lauzon&pl=trueMore flying leglocks here: video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6669381608146313934&q=lauzon&pl=true

Thursday 4/6
double ankle grab sweep when the top guy stands up from closed guard.
defending that sweep by shoving your hips forward the moment he opens his legs
defending that sweep by getting back on top after he knocks you down.
passing by hugging around the chest - if he puts his knee across your stomach like the scissor sweep, drop your hips - if he tries to hook his foot in like he's taking your back, lift your hips up.
passing with leg on shoulder.

Saturday 4/8 taking opponent down as he punches you. low mount with grapevines - one arm around his head - other arm underhooks his arm and crawls it up over his head to arm triangle. on bottom of mount, kick your leg up to free one grapevine and drop your leg flat on the ground so he can't rehook it. You can do the leglock on bottom by putting your trapped foot on your free knee, walking your free knee up, and grabbing his foot with both hands. It doesn't always work to tap them, but today both Jimmy and Randy were able to put the leglock on me, and then roll me over when I resisted the leglock. On top, when he frees one grapevine, put your weight on the side where his leg is free, and with your grapevine leg, kick your leg straight and grab his foot and do a leglock on him. Check out Gomi ripping up some mofo's knee with this move in video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6491932292662958231&q=gomi&pl=trueat about 1:00. He does it from the side instead of from mount but it's basically the same thing. Notice he's trying to pull the guy's head to his foot. Going to high mount - from low mount with hooks, put your fist on his neck so he grabs your arms, clearing a path to slide your knees up to high mount. arm bar from high mount gift wrap from high mount to cobra choke or take the back.

Saturday 4/15 Brendan showed a lot of takedowns from the two on one. Two on one to grabbing his hip and blocking his leg and taking him down. Two on one to fake footsweep to snap down. Two on one, if he circles to square up with you and posts his arm, use the two on one to knock his arm that's posting up and do a shot on the far leg. Two on one, if he grabs your wrist, grab his wrist and do the sacrifice throw. arm drag from closed guard to back arm drag from butterfly guard to back. This site has a bunch of two on one takedown clips. They weren't exactly the same thing that we did, but have a look. drillbook.lakeheadu.ca/Wrestling%20Clinics.htm

Tuesday 4/18 shooting a double when the person is punching you. from under a sprawl: peek out or pull half guard sweep from turtle and he's on your side side roll to the top of side control or granby roll to guard. he's behind you with no hooks: front roll and you have his back, or rolling kneebar, or kimura. Karo does the rolling kimura at 0:50, and again twice more at 2:05 video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-467140434981184276&q=karo&pl=trueHe also did the front roll back escape like 2 times in the diaz fight but it wasn't in this highlight. Here's the 3rd round of Karo - Diaz. It doesn't have the move but it was a good round anyways. youtube.com/watch?v=CjlmeaHSV6s&search=karo
