Hey guys,
Just wanted to update everyone on what happened today.
John Chastek won second place in the novice no gi, losing only to Aaron from Pitt who basically trains with us as well.
Jimmy won second place in the blue belt 185 lb weight class. His first match was against an opponent about 30 pounds heavier than him, and it was pretty close although he lost on points. His second match was against me, and he got me on points.
Jimmy also won first place in his weightclass for the advanced no gi. He fought a very experienced grappler and basically dominated the entire fight. He won on points.
Bryce won first place in the blue belt 200 lb weight class. I can't remember exactly how he won right now, but obviously he did it in a very badass way.
Bryce also won first place in the intermediate no gi. He dropped down to intermediate because there weren't enough competitors in the advanced division to have more than one fight. He defeated both of his opponents by submission (I think) to win the championship.
As for me, I had last place in the blue belt 185 lb weight class. My first match was against someone who outweighed me by about 15 lbs, and I lost by triangle. I made a stupid error to leave myself open for it, and I just got caught. I was pretty pissed about that because I pulled off a few nice sweeps and had a shot at winning it.
I decided to channel my rage into winning the Intermediate/Advanced 175 lb weight class. There were no advanced fighters in my weight class, so I gave up 15 lbs and fought the next class up in intermediate. I won my first match on points and my second match by armbar.
Congratulations to everyone who competed and did well. Together with Pitt, we are close to winning the team trophy for the tournament for doing the best. It's a close race between Steel City, Pittsburgh Fight Club, and us for the trophy.
I'll keep you updated, and look for the videos to be posted online soon.
