One of the goals of our grappling club is to make training with us as convenient and productive as possible for as many people as possible. I am making this thread so that our members can make suggestions to improve our club.
To give everyone an idea of what things are flexible and open to suggestions, I will list some things below that I have at least considered tinkering with.
Scheduling - Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7:30 PM is pretty much set in stone at this point. Activity Room A has now been turned into an office limiting our available practice space. These times are similar to last semester and do not seriously conflict with other organizations.
The Saturday practice at noon is still flexible. Skibo is fairly open on the weekends (especially later in the afternoon). It could be changed to Sunday or changed to later on in the afternoon. I do not think it is possible to make it earlier than noon.
Lesson Plan - Typically our practices are open ended. We simply practice whatever we feel like. However, some people have expressed interest in making our practices more structured. Something like 15 minute warm up, 15 minute technique, 30 minute drill, rest sparring, etc.
Gi versus No-gi - All of our previous practices have been no-gi. There has been some interest in making some of practices with the gi to train grappling in that environment (chokes, grips, throws, etc). We will probably always remain a majority no-gi group, but it is possible that we could implement some gi days if there is enough interest.
Tournaments - We want to hold more tournaments this semester. We have not yet decided on the best way to do this though. This is very open to suggestion.
Please feel free to add your comments below. We will take them under advisement.
