Does anyone have any recommendations for (hopefully cheap!) Jujitsu schools in the Pittsburgh area? I think that may be a good way to learn and gain confidence with the skills, which I obviously lack at the grappling club. However, I heard so may horror stories over the 'net that I'm nervous about committing to any one place.

As far as I know, the only official BJJ school in the Pittsburgh area is Steel City Martial Arts. Check out www.steelcitymartialarts.com. I've never been there personally, but Jim Kapinski trains there and rolls with us sometimes. Jim is a blue belt there and a great grappler, so I'm sure the school is of good quality. You could also check out Eric Hibler at www.practicalfightingconcepts.com. I've never rolled with anyone who trained with him, but I know that he trains a lot of no-gi grapplers in the area. About commitment, I have found in my experience that every martial arts school that is worth training at will be willing to work with you if you have special needs. Obviously in your case, when school starts again in the fall you may need to take a break due to your schedule. I would explain this to the instructor, and I am sure you will be able to work something out. Let me know how your search goes.
